Film Review: Chef

Sometimes it’s nice to go to a movie that doesn’t have superheroes, explosions, or a threat of alien invasion. A film that sets out to spin a simpler, yet grander yarn, of life, love and the pursuit of happiness. I am referring to writer/director Jon Favreau‘s latest film, Chef.

More a drama than a comedy, but not bogged down with that usual blue/morose feeling most dramas lend themselves to, Chef is all heart. Uplifting and inspiring (and genuinely fun), its the story of a Chef (Favreau) who is starting to lose his passion for what he loves to do and thanks to a critics negative feedback on his blog, sets off a feud that causes him his job.

This inspires him to start a food truck business which he takes on the road with his son and former sous chef. That’s pretty much it. No cgi, no cities being demolished. Just a story of a man finding his love for life again, reuniting with his son, all while cooking food. SO much delicious food…I’m going to go eat some food.

See this film. It’s amazing and will definitely be on my top 10 list for 2014.
